Powerball Player Claims His $1 Million Prize

By beating the odds of 1 to 11.7 million, Corneil Morris of Charlotte has been able to win a $1 million prize in Wednesday night’s (Jan. 3, 2018) Powerball drawing. A state lottery official has confirmed it on this Tuesday. The lucky ticket was bought near the intersection of 77 and 485 in north Charlotte, at the 7-Eleven on Sam Roper Drive. To win this whopping $1 million, the concerned ticket had managed to match five white balls drawn. Morris claimed his prize after five days (this Monday) at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He took home $695,010 after all (state and federal) tax withholdings. His prize was among 16 big wins – ranging $50,000 to $1 million – for North Carolina. In total, 4,003,400 ticket holders won prizes of various amounts including 153,992 from Illinois, 379,499 from Florida, 129,373 from Michigan, 151,753 from New Jersey, and 254,436 from New York.

On the other side, a New Hampshire player is $570 million richer after matching all the balls drawn in Saturday night’s drawing. The winning numbers for Jan. 06, 2018 were 12, 29, 30, 33, 61, Powerball 26, and Power Play 3x. The winner, who has not claimed his/her ticket, can prefer to receive his/her prize in lump sum payment of $300 million or in annual payments over 30 years. With just one winning ticket, the punter scooped the second-largest jackpot and seventh-biggest in U.S. lotto in the history. Incredibly, another ticket holder won the $450 million Mega Millions prize just 24 hours. However, $40 million is on offer for Wednesday night’s Powerball draw. Get ready to win $25.2 million as cash payout.

In this regard, a Dover (South East England) lawyer, Shaheen, gave some suggestions in his blog post. He said: “Don’t sign that back of the Powerball ticket because if you sign it, you lose your confidentiality. It becomes public, and you lose the option of staying mysterious. If you like your life and you like your friends, please choose anonymity. If you don’t, things may change. People may look at you differently and treat you differently.” Shaheen also said that the lottery winners should follow this simple rule — don’t rush to claim a prize before getting one’s ducks in a row.
