Mavis Wanczyk, a hospital worker, scooped up the biggest-ever undivided lottery jackpot in U.S. history. She wanted to retire from her job, but there are some negative sides too. Winning such a big amount surely comes with its perks. Soon after announced as the Powerball winner, her house was reportedly descended by members of the media and curious bystanders.
For protecting her from gawkers, press, and criminals, the police department has installed patrols around her home. “This is a great thing. We want her to know we are there if she needs us,” a spokesman for Chicopee police said.
There are reasons behind such precautionary measures. In 2015, masked men shot and killed Craigory Burch Jr. after two months of winning $434,272 from Georgia Lottery. Wanczyk, however, wants to sit back and relax with her winnings.
