A Gurdon, Arkansas man is booked on theft charges for allegedly stealing state lottery tickets of worth thousands of dollars.
Gurdon Police Department Lt. Chris Russell responded last month to Gurdon Quick Mart. The complaint was regarding an employee who had been stealing Arkansas Lottery scratch-off tickets. As per a female associated with the store, the register of cashier James Cody Tappen was coming up short, and it was noticed several times. This was the cause of the woman starting investigating the case.
After studying the paperwork, Tappen was found guilty. Tappen had taken around $17,000 worth of the lottery tickets. The 23-year-old accused was caught on the camera installed while taking out tickets from the holders. Tappen then scratched off the bottom of the ticket and scanned the tickets to see if they were winning tickets or not. The whole activity occurred between May 1, 2017 to July 3, 2017.
Moreover, Russell brought Tappen to GPD for questioning. Russel was also successful in securing a notable amount of tickets that Tappen had scratched. On the other hand, as per Tappen, he would put money in the draw to pay for some ticket. And, if they were winners he would then use the winning prize to pay for other tickets.
Above all, at the meeting, a minimum of $17,144 was given as the cost of the tickets. Tappen has been charged with theft greater than $5,000.
