A MegaMillions ticket sold at Martin’s Food Market in Harrisonburg won $1 million on August 1. The odds of winning were 1-in-18,492,204. The Virginia Lottery also urged everyone to check their tickets and claim the winning, but no one came out.
However, on August 30, James Deal came forward and claimed himself as the lucky winner. Deal, who is not a regular MegaMillions player saw the jackpot rising to $303 million, thought it was worth a shot. And, so it was!
The winning numbers were: 20, 22, 52, 57, and 73 with
Mega Ball number: 7
Deal managed to match the first five numbers and missed the Mega Ball number. The first five numbers helped him secure the second-place in MegaMillions prize grabbing $1 million. Deal said, “I kept double-checking and triple-checking the ticket to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. I just got lucky, I guess.”
In addition to this, the store also receives a bonus cheque for $10,000 for selling the winning ticket. Moreover, Deal used Easy Pick, i.e. computer randomly picked his numbers. There were total four nationwide tickets to match the first five numbers drawn on August 1. Deal was one of the four lucky winners to match the numbers. Furthermore, when enquired about his plans for the windfall, he said to have no immediate plans. However, Deal wishes to invest for his retirement and take care of his family.
MegaMillions drawing takes place twice-weekly on Tuesday and Friday nights at 11:00 p.m. TV stations across Virginia including WHSV broadcast the MegaMillions drawing. The drawings also stream live at www.valottery.com. The odds of winning the $1,000,000 MegaMillions jackpot are 1-in-18,492,204. Also, the Virginia Lottery contributes more than 1.6 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools.
