Ireland ready to draw its second-highest Lotto jackpot

Tomorrow’s Lotto jackpot is heading towards €9 million. If won, it will be the second highest jackpot win of 2017.

A syndicate from the North East hit the last Lotto jackpot of €6.4 million top-prize on Wednesday, 5th July.  Argue’s Service Station in Cootehill, Co. Cavan sold the winning ticket. There have been 1,728 jackpot winners since the Lotto game began in Ireland in 1988.

The Chief Executive of the National Lottery, Dermot Griffin, stated that “Lotto continues to be Ireland’s favourite game. We are seeing great excitement among our players.” He also added that there is an increase in play as the jackpot continues to roll. He also advised buying tickets earlier to avoid queues and to be in with the chance of hitting this life-changing jackpot.

On the other hand, while everyone is waiting for the next big Lotto jackpot, charities, communities groups and other programs continue to benefit with around 30% of ticket sales going towards the Good Cause Fund. “A massive €9.4 million will have been generated in this current Lotto jackpot roll to date,” Griffin added.

Moreover, in last Saturday’s Lotto draw, 34 lottery players just missed with one number from scooping the €8.2 million jackpot. Above all, the biggest Lotto jackpot win dates back to 26 June 2008. Dan Morrissey syndicate in Carlow won €18,963,441 on 26 June 2008.
