Gambling commission introduces new penalties for regulation breaches

All gambling operators who breach gaming regulations are to face higher penalties. The new enforcement policies will also review the license of operators.

The Gambling Commission said to use complete range of enforcement powers to ensure operators put customers first and raise standards. “We will use the full range of enforcement powers to ensure operators put customers first and raise standards,” said Sarah Harrison, Gambling Commission Chief Executive. And, higher penalties for regulation breaches are one of the few significant changes which will take place.

At the same time, Sarah assured more efficient and fair functioning of gambling industry after implementation of new policies. She said “we will use powers in targeted ways” and “will take robust actions” against companies to meet their obligations.

In other words, this new enforcement policy will heavily penalize operators who systematically and repeatedly cheat their customers. Gambling operators who consistently fail potential customers will face tougher sanctions from the regulators. “We want to work with operators who want to raise the standard,” Sarah added.

Brain Chappell, the founder of campaign group Justice4Punters said, “We are delighted by this announcement.” And, any regulatory change to improve this situation is readily welcome.

Above all, the new strategy comes days after the gambling regulators noticed few gambling companies for breaking consumer laws. The new enforcement policy is also to check some operators who are unfairly holding on to punters money. The complaint process is really a difficult and time-consuming process and there was a clear need for some new implementations. It will be interesting to watch the new implementations really benefiting gamblers. The new implementations will also put a check on gambling operators and the games will become fairer than before.
