Report suggests Ohioans spend $233 per year on Lottery tickets

As per a new study, Ohioans spend $233 per year on an average on lottery tickets. Meanwhile, the national average is $206. LendEDU is an online marketplace for student loan refinancing that used recently released data from the US Census Bureau to construct this study in 43 states.

The 2015 Annual Survey of State Government Finances used the income and apportionment data of the State- administered lottery fund as the preliminary data. The US Census Bureau released it in May. For each state having its lottery, the income generated from ticket sales and the apportionment of those sales is included. The money made from the state’s lottery is classified basically into three parts-

  1. Prizes for winning tickets
  2. Administrative bills
  3. Leftover proceeds

According to the study, the state lotteries generated a total of $66.788 billion in which winning prizes took $42.28 billion and administrative expenses took away $3.1 billion. The website used Census Bureau population projects to ascertain how much a person spends on lottery per year.

Other states stats-

Above all, Massachusetts people spend the most i.e. $734.85 while the Dakota residents spend the least – $34.09 on lottery tickets. Following North Dakota are Oklahoma ($43.74), Montana ($53.19), New Mexico ($65.84) and Nebraska ($78.52).
