North Carolina lottery again exceeds its expectation

The North Carolina lottery yet again exceeds its expectations for generating funds for public education. However, it did not quite reach its record from a year ago.

The North Carolina Education Lottery on Wednesday announced that for the fiscal year ending on June 30, the net earnings for education programs totaled $622 million. Moreover, this compares with record net profit of $634 million in the previous fiscal year.

On the other hand, a lottery spokesman, Van Denton attributes the downward tick to more typical prize and administrative expenses and also Powerball tickets sales. In comparison to last year, the Powerball sales spiked with a $1.6 billion jackpot.

However, still this year’s net profit exceeded its projected mark. Lottery commissioners projected it by $71 million in their budget. Overall ticket sales exceeded $2.4 billion mark. Lastly, the sales too have increased year by year since they began in 2006.
