$3m MegaMillions jackpot in Sterling remains unclaimed

According to Virginia Lottery officials, there is a $3 million lottery ticket from September 5 MegaMillions drawings which remains unclaimed. Giant Food in Sterling in Loudoun County sold the winning ticket. However, the winner has yet not claimed the winning ticket.

The lucky ticket matched all the five numbers drawn but missed the Mega Ball number. As a result, it will win Mega Millions’ second prize of $1 million worth. However, the winning ticket holder spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier, and the Megaplier number in the drawing was 3x. Hence, the ticket is now worth three times, i.e. $3 million.

The winning numbers were: 11-17-59-70-72 with

Mega Ball number: 1

Moreover, the ticket was the only one in Virginia to match the first five numbers. The ticket holder has a 180 days deadline from the date of the draw to claim the winning prize. The Virginia Lottery advises the lucky winner to immediately sign the back of the ticket to establish ownership. S/He can claim the winning prize as nearest Lottery headquarter.

However, no ticket matched all six numbers draw in the September 5 drawing. The MegaMillions jackpot for the Friday’s drawing sits at $70 million. The odds of winning the second prize are 1 in 18,492,204.
