Woman claims to be paid less than she actually won!

A woman is seeking damages from the Ohio Lottery Commission. She won $500,000 on a scratch-off ticket, and the Ohio lottery retailer paid her $500 instead. Penelope Demetriades, of Northfield, filed the action Monday in the Ohio Court of Claims.

As per the claim, Demetriades, bought a $10 50X The Money instant ticket at a Macedonia convenience store on Sept. 30, 2016. The top prize is $500,000. After the Defendant scratched off the appropriate spaces, she believed that one of the tickets was a winner for, based upon her belief, the sequences “9, 19, 51, 55, 62” and/or “18, 29, 30, 54, 66”, the claim says.

Moreover, Demetriades said the owner of the store knew she was financially desperate. After allegedly running the ticket through the lottery machine “the employee confirmed that it was a winning ticket and gave the defendant $500 as the alleged price, the claim continues. After arriving home, Demetriades claims she realized to actually win $500,000 and immediately went back to the store.

However, employees refused to honour the winning ticket. They said they would not look for and return her ticket because it was either thrown out or destroyed. She was unsuccessfully tried to contact lottery commission officials and filed the required claim for a prize.

Above all, she is claiming breach of contract, bad faith and negligence and seeking compensatory damages over $25,000 as well as declaratory judgment that she won $500,000.
