This June 10 drawing that has just one winner of the grand prize, still remains unclaimed nearly after three weeks. The Marietta Liquor and Deli in the retirement town of Menifee, California sold a winning Powerball Ticket of worth $447 million, approx. 20 days ago, but no one really knows who is the lucky winner. The California party store received a $1 million commission check earlier this month.
“That’s a lot of money for somebody in this area,” said Russ Lopez, a California Lottery spokesperson earlier this month. “Winning the lottery should never be a nightmare,” he later added. In California, all lottery winning records are open to public access, so winners have to deal with the public too. With $447 as the winning prize, the winner can expect a lot of publicity. This is the 10th largest jackpot ever won in the US.
However, this is not for the first time winners of such huge prizes have taken their time to turn up. Winners often take time to proclaim their winnings until they have made proper plans and arrangements to handle such a huge amount. An Indiana man waited for almost three weeks to claim his winning prize of worth $435.3 million, earlier this year. And, last year in New York, an individual claimed his $24million winning just two days before the deadline.
