The winner of the giant $447.8 million Powerball jackpot ticket has finally come forward. The winning ticket was sold in Menifee. Jeff Lindsay and his family have claimed the 10th largest jackpot in the U.S. history. It is also the seventh-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The family has opted to take home a lump sum amount of $279.1 million before taxes.
As per a release from California Lottery, Jeff Lindsay said, they are ‘thrilled with the tremendous stroke of good luck’. “We are still getting our arms around what it means for us”, Jeff added. On the other hand, California Lottery Director, Hugo Lopez said, “We congratulate Jeff and his family on their huge win.” He also stated that the winner is informed and has already assembled a team of legal and financial advisors. This will help him make the most of this wealth and make it last for many generations to come.
Lottery officials said that Lindsay stopped at Marietta Liquor and Deli in the Sun City section of Menifee to buy Scratchers tickets. He then returned later to cash in one winner, and on a whim decided to purchase 10 Powerball tickets. The store owners received $1 million for selling the Powerball winning ticket. The store owner, Patriarch Albeir Alberre was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis earlier this year. So, the reward comes at a very favorable time for the Albeir family.
The Lindsay family declined interviews concerning the win. However, the release stated, “We are private people and do not want to change who we are or become public figures.” They asked people to appreciate and respect their privacy. They also said that once the things calm down, we plan to work closely with our financial advisors to determine how to manage this massive newfound wealth. We will be looking for ways that can support our family.
