Virginia Lottery winner buys Gucci’s flip-flop from his windfall

A Virginia Cavaliers football player who matched all five numbers to win a $100,000 lottery jackpot said all he bought was a pair of designer flip-flops. Charles Davis bought his winning ticket for the June 25 drawing and won using his grandma’s license plate number. He is also a University of Virginia student.

Davis said he has held on to most of his windfall from the $100,000 jackpot he hit in late June. “Oh yeah, I bought some Gucci flip-flops,” Davis told the Washington post after Day 3 of training camp on Monday. Although Davis didn’t reveal the cost of his fancy footwear, Gucci’s website lists the flip-flop as starting at $320.

The Virginia football player recalled how he used the numbers of his grandmother’s license plate to scoop the Cash 5 lottery drawing. Davis also said that he checked the school’s compliance department to ensure his big win didn’t violate any NCAA rules.

He concluded, “It’s good. It’s approved by the NCAA. It’s basically luck, so they can’t have rules on it.”
