San Antonio woman wins $1 million lottery prize

Herlinda Chavarria of San Antonio has won Mega Millions lottery prize worth $1 million. Chavarria purchased the winning ticket at HEB in Castroville for the June 13 drawing. She managed to match all the five numbers except the Mega Ball number that earned her the second-tier prize of $1 million, Texas Lottery Commission stated.

Chavarria was one of the two winners for the total $1 million amount. The other winning ticket was sold at Stripes in Brownsville. Both the winners will receive $750,000 due to 25 percent federal tax rate on over $5,000 lottery earnings.

The Texas lottery has raised more than $26 billions in revenue for the state since its inception in 1992. In addition, $50 billion as prizes have been awarded to Texas lottery players. It has also contributed $20 million in support of public education in Texas via the Foundation School Fund.
