Woody Simmons, a postal worker from Maryland, was in his car when he came to know that he won a whopping $10 million in a Virginia lottery scratch-off game. Simmons lives in Hyattsville and works for the U.S. Postal Service. He stopped at a Woodbridge convenience store a week back and noticed a sign of the newly introduced Extreme Millions lottery inside. He bought a ticket then.
“I thought, ‘Well, let me take a chance. I just screamed in my car with all the windows up,” he told lottery officials. He purchased this ticket from Optimax Service Center and kept it in his pocket.
“He did not tell anyone he won, not even his wife,” John Hagerty, a spokesman for the Virginia Lottery, said. When he shared it with his wife, she did not believe it. He went back to the store on Wednesday and claimed his prize. Instead of opting full $10 million over 30 years, Simmons preferred the one-time cash option of $6.5 million before taxes.
