Luciano Polera, an Ontario man, nearly missed a life-changing surprise from a Lotto Max draw. He would have surely missed this prize if his wife had not made the cross check. He will now retire with $23.6 million in his pocket. The 64-year-old has been following a tradition of buying a Friday ticket for last 40 years.
He missed the prize by a single number. He explored it when he checked his ticket over a cup of coffee, this Saturday. “I told my wife we missed by one number,” Polera told CTVNews.Ca on Tuesday. In actual, he circled six numbers instead of seven. His wife, Cathy, fortunately, made a cross check on the ticket and found her hubby wrong. The lucky number was right there.
The Richmond Hill couple plans to invest some of the winnings on their children, ages 30 and 27. A vacation trip to Fiji is also on the wish list. “Now I don’t have to worry about any more financial problems, we can take care of our house and our kids,” he said. Meanwhile, as he picked up his winnings in Toronto, he now plans to retire in a month-and-a-half.
