Lurgan Community groups enjoy lottery windfall

Many Lurgan Community groups are busy in celebrating a summertime windfall through National Lottery funding. 85 groups including Elm Tree Group across Northern Ireland are sharing £746,713 from Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.
Elm Tree Group, based in Lurgan, supports 25 members aged between 60-80 years with respiratory conditions along with their carers. The group has recieved £4,939 grant for activities including a Christmas party, a bus trip, boccia, and music therapy sessions.
St Peter’s GAA Club in Lurgan is another group receiving funding from National Lottery. This community group provides sporting, cultural and community activities. St Peter’s GAA Club is utilising £4,490 grant to improve the health and well-being of members and the wider community by providing different activities. The activities include cardiac screening, mindfulness sessions, and a first aid course. This project will also facilitate a visit by the Action Cancer Big Bus.
The Big Lottery Fund NI Chair, Julie Harrison, said ‘I am delighted to announce these grants’ and ‘I want to say thanks to all National Lottery players’ for helping this make possible. He also said that the ‘Awards for All’ funds health, education, environment and community projects. This helps people bring out positive change in their lives, improve their health and well-being. This also helps people to develop skills and create a safer community.
Above all, Harrison concluded, “The application process is simple and accessible and shall remain so.” This makes it easy for applicants to apply for small pots of funding successfully. Moreover, these small funding pots can have a significant impact on communities and lives.
