Long Island’s Scratch-Off Ticket Holder Turns $3 Million Richer

Leelawatie Pittam, a 52-year-old woman from Long Island, has turned a few million dollars richer. In the initial stage, she was not eager to purchase the 50X the Money scratch-off ticket. The loss-prevention specialist for BJ’s Wholesale decided to go for it at the eleventh hour, and the last-minute decision enabled her to be the newest lottery millionaire in Long Island.

The winner said: “I followed my normal routine after work. I stopped for gas and my lottery tickets,” Pittam explained. “I bought four tickets to start. There was one ticket left on the roll, so I decided to spend the extra $10 and buy it. That’s the one that turned out to be the winner.” The loss-prevention specialist purchased her lucky ticket at the Mobil Mart on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont. She realised that she won the jackpot when she scratched her ticket in the store. She started crying in the store. “I screamed and was carrying on. I probably gave someone in the store a heart attack,” Pittam joked.

She opted to collect her prize as a one-time lump sum payment and collected totalling $1,568,466 after necessary withholdings. She plans to use the windfall in early retirement. With this huge win, this 52-year-old woman becomes the 86th New York Lottery punter to claim a prize worth $1 million or more in 2017.
