The last-minute decision of purchasing a lottery ticket has helped a Canberra couple take home $497,000 prize money. Canberra couple has won enough cash to pay off their entire mortgage after they took home half a million dollars.

The lucky couple almost didn’t purchase the winning entry, but they emerged as winners in the weekend’s Lotto draw. They became one of the eight winners to take the $497,000 prize in the weekend’s Lotto draw. They received their life-changing news while they were busy doing grocery shopping. The couple bought their lucky ticket at Erindale Newsagency in Wanniassa.

“Initially, I thought it might have been $1,500 or something like that, but the guy in the shop said you have got the six numbers,” the husband said. “My wife was waiting in the car. At first, I said it was nothing, but then I told her. She hit me across the head,” he laughed while expressing.

However, the couple chose to remain anonymous and will use the windfall to pay off their mortgage. The man added that he wasn’t going to put it on for the weekend. Earlier he was going to put a ticket on for Tuesday’s OZ lotto but then decided to put one for Saturday first.

The Erindale Newsagency owner Mark Hughes said, “I was as shocked as the winner to see that we’d sold the winning entry.”  He said it is hard to believe that the shop sold another division one winning entry, second in seven months. He later stated that it was great to break the news to the winner and share the moment with them.

Also, across Australia, there were eight division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 3753. This includes one in ACT, two in Queensland, two in Victoria, one in South Australia, and two in Western Australia.
