Florida teen will receive annual payments of $26,000 for 20 years

A lucky Florida teen won the top prize in the state’s latest $500 a Week for Life scratch-off lottery game.  She will receive $26,000 year.

According to Orlando Sentinel, Daniela Leon Ruz, 18, will receive the winning prize money in annual payments of $26,000. If something happens to her, her estate will collect the money for next 20 years.

Ruz purchased her scratch-off winning ticket on Friday from a local Publix grocery store in Orlando. She is also the first person to win game’s top prize since July 3 with odds of winning 1-in-6 million. The Florida Lottery introduced the game’s top prize on July 3.

Meanwhile, Joseph Torraco III won a similar lottery near Tallahassee, Florida. Like, Ruz’s $500-week-for-life win, Joseph won the $5,000 a Week for Life scratch-off. Ironically, this top prize was also launched on July 3. Similar to Ruz, Joseph too chose to receive his money in annual payments. He will receive $260,000 for the next 20 years.

Above all, it’s still unclear what the winners will do with their new found wealth. However, it’s very common for people to continue to work and practice their normal life even after winning huge lotteries. According to a 2013 Gallup poll, 68% winners continue working even if they win $10 million in the lottery. Only, 31 % tend to quit their job after winning big.
