City Civil servants scoop big lottery prizes

Lukasz Solis, an NYPD cop, has become the first lottery player to scoop the top prize of worth $3 million on a $10 Wonka Golden ticket. Solis, who is 31 years old, lives in Commack in Suffolk County, New York.

Solis purchased the winning in the Sweet Tree food store in Far Rockaway. According to SeeThroughNY, which lists city salaries, said that Solis earned $118,259 last year as a police officer on patrol in Queens.

For choosing the ticket, Solis said ‘it was a new game’, and he likes ‘to mix it up’. However, he scratched off the ticket only when he got home. He says doing it private helps him unwind. Initially, he thought of a small jackpot. He said, “You scratch a ticket with the hope of winning $50 or maybe winning your money back.” Solis has opted to receive his $3 million prize in 20 annual payments of $150,000. He plans to use the windfall to cover some home improvements and also pay for his wife’s return to school.

Moreover, there is another city civil servant to win big. Danny Vargas is a Department of Education staffer from Williamsburg to win a $3 million jackpot. Lottery officials on Wednesday announced that Vargas matches first five numbers in the Mega Millions drawing on Wednesday, May 26. Typically, this produces a $1 million jackpot. But, Vargas decided to add the Megaplier feature that increased his win. Also, Megaplier enables the player to pay an additional $1 to multiply the jackpot up to 5 times.

The winning numbers were: 25, 26, 28, 37, 56, and

Mega Ball: 05

Vargas bought 10 Quick Pick tickets from Sterling Grapes and Grain in Boerum Hill. He will get winning prize of worth $3 million in a single net payment totaling $1,869,120. Vargas plans to move to Florida and will use the windfall to pay off his mortgage.

Above all, after no one won $262 million jackpot on Tuesday, current Mega Millions jackpot is close to $300 million. The Lottery officials said that the Friday’s drawing will worth $282 million.
