Chase the Ace: Selkirk Woman Turns $108,000 Richer

After winning a 50-50 style lottery, titled ‘Chase the Ace,’ a Selkirk (Manitoba, Canada) woman becomes richer by $108,000. “It is unbelievable. I am still trying to absorb it and soak it all in. The shock is still there,” expressed the winner, Heather Moar.

Players purchase 50-50 lottery tickets and bar employees do a draw every Saturday. The lucky ticket-holder is invited to draw the ace of spades out of 52 cards. The prize is held over to the next draw if he/she is unable to pull the ace. For Moar, there were just three cards left to draw when the concerned ticket was called. She won the ‘Chase the Ace’ draw at the Riverton Motor Inn, which is located 125 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

Moar, along with her boyfriend, and two friends had been playing this game for almost two months. The winning amount is likely to be split in four ways. As the finder’s fee, the fifth share will go to a person who lives near Riverton and inspired the group onto the game. However, some of the funds will be kept aside for Moar’s son’s post-secondary education.
