Nicknamed as The Catering Girls, six women aged between 37 and 73, handed their early retirement notice after hitting a jackpot. The NHS kitchen caterers have been able to scoop a EuroMillions jackpot worth £25 million. As a work syndicate, these ladies have been associated with the National Lottery for six years. They picked up more than £4.2 million each from the Nov. 3, 2017, draw.
The work syndicate comprises of Doreen Thompson, 56, Mrs Saunders, 73, Sian Jones, 54, Jean Cairns, 73, Julie Amphlett, 50, and Louise Ward, 37. Mrs Saunders, who is an Elvis fan and has been working as a catering assistant, said, ‘’It is amazing. We all decided to retire on the spot.’’ They were at work. So, the grandmother-of-two requested her husband, Alwyn Saunders to pick up the ticket.
Mrs Thompson, Mrs Saunders, Mrs Jones, Mrs Amphlett, and Mrs Ward handed in their notice immediately after this massive win. Mrs Cairns retired last year. Ms Ward, the youngest member, joined this work syndicate a year ago. She is perhaps the luckiest among all. They are planning to celebrate it together. Starting something new as a common career option is also on their wish list.
