Birthday Gift from Brother adds $675,000 as Surplus

Wanda Brooks, a hairdresser by profession, received 2 Set For Life tickets as a birthday gift from her brother Geoff Higdon, a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Consultant. Geoff gifted a birthday card which was filled with these two tickets. One of these two tickets has been able to win a jackpot for her. And, she collected $675,000 as one-time lump sum payment.

The Placentia woman, along with her brother and some friends, went outside for birthday dinner. She eventually received a card as her birthday gift from brother. She found two tickets when she opened that card. They were waiting for food to come out. Wanda scratched both of her tickets. “Before I said anything to anybody, I did that a few times, and then I looked at my friend. I showed her, and she said, ‘That looks real, Wanda,’ and I was like, ‘No, it can’t be,'” the winner said.

Wanda thought there was something incorrect. She was unable to believe it. She passed the ticket to her brother and requested him to check it once. He then suggested going across the road to the gas station. ‘No, I want to eat my supper first,'” Brooks replied. She changed her mode after some time and said, ”I am going to check my ticket.” However, the hairdresser and her partner (a property manager with Blue Sky) opted to collect the one-time payment. They received their winning check in Placentia. The two plans to play off their debt, invest some winnings in child education, and the rest amount for retirement.
