Army veteran scoops $1 million lottery win in NC

Retirement can’t be any better than this for an Army veteran in North Carolina. According to North Carolina Education Lottery, an army veteran recently scored a $1 million lottery win.

Allen Holderby served army for 13 years. He recently purchased a $2,500 Frenzy scratch-off ticket at the gas station in Charlotte. Allen said, “I started shaking. My wife didn’t believe me either. When I called to tell her, she called me a liar.”

Allen claimed his winning prize on Thursday. He decided to take a $600,000 lump sum. However, the army veteran also had the option to receive 20 payments of $50,000 a year. He took home $417,009 after required state and federal tax with holdings.

Allen is the first player to win a top prize since $2,500 Frenzy launched this month. Moreover, three prizes remain to be claimed.
