Chase the Ace pays out largest ever jackpot of $650,000

The River Hill’s Golf and Country Club Chase the Ace jackpot has grown to the largest ever in the region. Everyone is talking about it. The jackpot for September, 23 sits at $650,000 up for winning.

Everyone has a unique plan to use this life-changing amount of money. As people go to buy their tickets, they also share their stories with volunteers about the windfall. The organizer of the Chase the Ace in Clyde River, Lesa O’Connell says, “That is the fun part of doing this. Most tell you about their dreams, it’s so uplifting.”

Lesa said that it takes a lot of effort to organize such an event. Approx 80-100 volunteers are stapling and counting ticket, taking money at different locations across Shelburne County. Lesa added that she was warned while applying for the lottery license that this could become a full-time job. She has taken off from the work so to look out for the competition. Each week they try to hold ticket sales and live music at various non-profits organizations across the country.

The money raised for River Hills Gold and Country Club will go toward development of the junior golfing program. Moreover, it’s not only the jackpot which is changing lives but also the smaller prizes. The winner of the most recent draw took home approx. $50,000 despite not picking the ace of spades.

Don McCumber is the winner of the last draw and is from Yarmouth, England. He has been a life- long volunteer. Don McCumber is the recipient of the Queens Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals. Lesa said McCumber once told her that even though he didn’t hit the jackpot, this money will still make a big difference. McCumber gave half of his winning amount to his mother.
