MegaMillions Jackpot

MegaMillions jackpot is America’s one of the two biggest jackpot games. However, it is the one and only lottery draws game with the ticket costing just $1. The MegaMillions Jackpot costs $15 million while the smaller prizes range from $1 to $1 million. Moreover, you can also scoop a whopping $5 million with the help of Megaplier.

MegaMillions dates back to August 31, 1996, as the Big Game. The first MegaMillions jackpot drawing took place on September 6, 1996. Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia were the six states to participate in the first drawing. Soon, the game gained its share of popularity, and a Tuesday drawing was added in February 1998. Further, in 1999, a “cash payout” option was introduced along with New Jersey becoming the seventh state to offer MegaMillions jackpot drawing to its lottery player.

In May 2002, this multi-state game got its name ‘MegaMillions’ along with few changes in the  game matrix and prize amounts to offer more excitement to punters. New York and Ohio became eighth and ninth state to offer MegaMillions.

In 2005, MegaMillions became the country’s most widely played multi-state lottery jackpot game with California becoming the 12th member state. Washington became the 10th member state in September 2002 while Texas participated in December 2003.

On January 31, 2010, 23 U.S. states came together to participate in MegaMillions drawing. MegaMillions is now played in 46 states.

How to play MegaMillions Jackpot

MegaMillions jackpot ticket costs just $1.00 per draw. Players need to choose six numbers from two separate set of numbers –

  • Five main numbers from 1 to 75, and
  • 1 MegaBall number from 1 to 15

Moreover, you can also opt for Easy Pick. There are thousands of licensed lottery retail stores from where you can purchase your MegaMillions tickets, or you can also buy them online. If you are fortunate enough to match all the six numbers drawn, then the MegaMillions jackpot is all yours. The jackpot starts with $15 million payouts and grows by a minimum $5 million each time the jackpot rolls.

Winning numbers

MegaMillions winning numbers are drawn twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 p.m. ET. There are nine ways to win a prize ranging from $1 to the jackpot. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1-in-15.
